Plush toys have seen a surge in popularity, pushing them even further into the limelight. In 2021 plush toys recorded around $1.66 billion in sales. You and your kids may have plush toys all over your house.  But like all other things, stuffed toys also need to be cleaned from time to time.

Vacuuming Your Plush Toy

Whether you are a plush toy collector or you just buy beanie babies as part of your every routine trip to a store, there are quick ways to clean your pile of plushies, one is to vacuum them.

Start by removing any loose dirt or debris from your plush toy with a soft brush. You can then vacuum it using the soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Start at the top of the toy and work your way down, being careful not to Vacuum too hard, or you could damage the toy. Once you’re finished, use a lint roller to remove any remaining debris.

Washing Your Plush Toy by Hand

Fill the sink or basin with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Gently swish the toy around, then rinse it thoroughly. Squeeze the water out of the toy and wrap it in a clean, dry towel, then lay the toy on a flat surface and pat it dry with a towel.

If your plush toy is large, you can spot-clean it with a damp cloth. Be sure to rinse the cloth frequently and wring it out well. Wipe the toy in the direction of the fur and avoid scrubbing.

Washing Your Plush Toy in the Washing Machine

Using a washing machine is an option for deep cleaning a plush toy. Make sure to use a mesh laundry bag to protect from getting tangled up in the machine. Use a delicate or hand-wash cycle with a mild detergent or one specifically designed for plush toys.

Plush toys can be sensitive to heat and agitation, so it’s usually best to air dry instead of using the dryer. You can use the dryer but make sure you use the lowest setting. 

Storing Your Plush Toy

When you’re not busy cuddling with your plush toy, you need to make sure you’re storing it properly so it will stay in good condition. Find a good, dry spot for it. A closed closet or a storage bin works well.

You also want to make sure your plush toy is not exposed to sunlight or excessive heat, as this can cause the colors to fade. And avoid storing in a plastic bag, as this can trap moisture and cause the toy to mold or mildew.
